Winchester University Arts Web TV channel (WUATV)

This is a proposal to set up an experimental webcast TV channel to feature student work and teaching materials produced within the faculty of arts. It is created with free, open source software (blogger - from google) and Mogulous (for streaming and cue-ing pre-recorded video material). It was very easy to create and it is very easy to add content to either the page or to the channel.

My proposal is that we should launch this channel on October 1st 2009 as part of the induction process for the new year and we should run a schedule along the lines of the sample schedule listed below.

There are possible advantages is terms of increasing student participation, in helping with retention, in clarifying teaching objects, in terms of using technilogy in teaching. There are also very considerable potential advantages in terms of CET and in terms of marketing (the last point being dependent somewhat on the quality of student work).

This development is technically very easy to achieve, but there are a number of policy issues to be considered in terms of how the development would develop and how it would be managed. The resource issue would be redeployment of staff for I would say 2 hrs per week to take responsobility for programming the content and marketing the site.
